This month we’re thrilled to feature a scene from upcoming local production, MISCONCEPTION written by

Karla Bogaart and Daniel Berger-Alexander and in pre-production to be filmed in #Canberra.

LOGLINE: A scientists work in modifying the human genome becomes her sole mission, regardless of the cost.

Come along to workshop a scene from this futuristic dystopian sci-fi exploring the murky ethics of genetic engineering.

BIOS:

KARLA

Karla Bogaart completed her training in the performing arts after following a career in accounting. She continued her training in Meisner based acting techniques enjoying the freedom and connection it brings her. In the seven years since graduating, she has been involved in short films, television productions, television commercials, training films, radio and voice over work, and photographic work. She is passionate about complex and challenging roles, particularly those that depict females with a primary identity as “other than mother”.

Karla is also an emerging creator and writer with her latest offering a short film script, co-written with Daniel Berger-Alexander, exploring the idea of science versus humanity. Intertwining a personal story of illness, grief, and resilience against the backdrop of scientific advancement and the juxtaposed position of right and wrong; we explore the main character’s need to modify the human genome, ridding future generations of genetic disease. She hopes to produce the short film supporting her film making philosophy of creating intriguing multi-faceted female characters linked to a unique story line.

DANIEL

Daniel Berger-Alexander is a creator, writer and director steering projects from inception to completion. His goal is to create stories with deeply human characters that are by nature flawed, complex, and all the more believable because of it. He has written and number of award winning  short films and Misconception is next on the list.

About the workshop

Set Ready Film is an accessible, regular workshop held at Film Plus each month, for emerging practitioners to learn through practice: from writing to directing, acting and cinematography.

It’s an opportunity to get the practice you need to be ready for where it counts: on set / location!
